SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO DIFFERENTLY

Dr. Sangeeta Ahuja is a Women Entrepreneur, blessed mother of two angels, and also a founder and principal interior designer of “Urban Interiors”. Her interest in philanthropy to help humanity with educating them and making them self-sufficient to pursue their lives on their own, leads her to be a part of MENTORx Women, an initiative working towards Educating, Empowering and Elevating women from all walks of life. In March 2020 on the eve of Women’s Day, she appointed as Chairperson of MENTORx Women.

BIRTH OF AN ENTREPRENEUR

Taurian by nature, Sangeeta was born and brought up in South Delhi based entrepreneurial family. Being born into an entrepreneurial family, she and her younger brother inherited qualities of entrepreneurship from their father.

She was always being a very creative and curious child since childhood. Her inquisitive nature always inspired her to try or learn something new. At the age of 13, she started learning and practicing Indian classical dance form “Odissi” and continued it for 4 years. Along with that, she participated in basketball tournaments from school.

During her growing years, his father won many awards. During one of such award function, she could not attend the award ceremony as she had some important lecture. By not seeing herself in the family picture clicked at that function, “she vowed that she will make herself worthy of every award and every achievement”.

“Leadership is the capacity to translate VISION into REALITY

~Warren G. Bennis

JOURNEY STARTED AT TEENAGE

Her journey started in her teenage. By the time her fellow students were deciding about their future, she stepped towards becoming a professional by joining Interior Design Diploma with Project Management and Furniture Designing.

As soon as she completed her diploma, she started her professional life of converting dream homes or workplaces into reality. This period was not less than a roller coaster ride for her. New clients, new challenges, learning the tricks of the market, conduct a market survey, traveling across to study the latest in the field to stay updated, trying to make schedules for startups, and handover project dates were all the key responsibility areas she was handling solely.

Along with that, she got admission in B.Sc in Interior Design. In the span of three years, she completed graduation and two more diplomas simultaneously. She used to get sleepless nights to bring perfection in her work. She believed its due to her parents’ support and guidance which made her like this. Seeing her hard work and dedication, once the HOD told her that “you have inherited these qualities from your father”.

DREAM PROJECT

In the year 2002 after working on some good projects with some corporate, she decided to take a call to start her own venture and found her dream project Urban Interiors. Gradually she set up her first office at Okhla in South Delhi.

Her life always gave her surprises. It was the day of the “Holi” celebration in the month of March 2005, her college was about to complete when she met with an accident and badly injured. In two months she had to submit her final thesis. She was not even fully recovered from that injury still she reached college in broken pieces to submit her final thesis. In May 2006, her marriage was fixed for June 2006. In that one month of the span, she had to deliver some prestigious projects. It was the day of her wedding Mehandi ceremony and she had to deliver a prestigious project in Sundar Nagar, Delhi on the very same day. She handed over the keys of the completed project at 5:30 p.m and then drove back to home for the ceremony. This shows how dedicated she was towards her passion.

After one year of marriage in July 2007, she blessed with a baby girl. Within one week of the birth of her daughter, that also through cesarean, she was back into her routine. It was a very emotional decision being a mother to leave her one-week-old daughter at home and to back to work but one has to learn to live it, to prove you are strong and can balance it!! At that point she could not give break to the practice of consultancy otherwise her practice could vanish as her projects were running all around NCR. She used to drive to Kamla Nagar and Delhi University from Faridabad for project supervision.

She believes that one could not grow with excuses and also believes that “God has been very kind in rewarding her consistently for all the hard work she has been able to put through with the support of family”.

This was the time when she was offered the post of HOD in the same college from where she qualified and another feather added to her cap. At the same time, she was approached by one of the prestigious institutes of the town for taking design lessons in the morning at 7:30 am. All these responsibilities were a challenge for her but she accepted it with an open heart.

”Opportunities don’t often come along. So, when they do, you have to grab them’’

~Audrey Hepburn

Being a professional and new mother, sharing her experiences with other budding interior designers to teach them how to grow and see the real world was not an easy task. While she was learning the chapters of motherhood along with that she taught them life skills on how to survive with daily routine challenges when she was bound to skip meals and morning walks!

She successfully completed and enjoyed 4 years’ of being a Guru or teacher and also balancing her practice as a Full-Time Design Consultant.

She is a lady boss in a Man’s world. Who is helping her clients how to spend earnings on luxury which was the need of the hour.

She is also passionate about recreating discarded waste products into meaningful art pieces in her free time.

By the time she becomes a popular name among renowned interior designers of the town. Now her clients used to introduce her as a renowned Interior designer of top-notch homes and bespoke commercial projects, a brilliant businesswoman, they said, “She’s got a vibrant aura and delightful energy that makes anyone want to be in her company always”. That gave her confidence for the next level.

In the year 2014, she blessed with another angel that completed her in all respect.

“Successful people are not gifted, they just work hard, then succeed on purpose”

~G.K Nielson

Being an independent successful entrepreneur, she strongly believes that the inner strengths and women’s powers can collectively leave an impact. She always believes that “the bond which gives us the power to rise, also gifts us the beautiful connects as friend circle to have a lot more fun along the way in our journey to success”.

She considers Interior designing as a very responsible field because Clients trust them with their hard-earned savings to be invested in their dream home where they start making memories or in their commercial spaces where they earn their livelihood or accolades. They pay them to spend their earnings wisely.”

She has beautifully crafted spaces that anticipate the needs and appeal to the emotions while pulling from a broad set of skills and technical knowledge. With hands-on experience of more than 21 years, she has now become an endless pool of knowledge as a professional Interior design expert. She also completed her study in Design and Architecture at Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

She always used to be on her toes forever as she believes in one to one interaction, in commitment, in honest and sincere work and that is the most difficult part of this profile. It is a glamorous and yet very hardworking profession. The needs and availability of materials, clients, exposure, choices, opinions, and budget have to be all balanced at once. Simultaneously to sell your design you have to learn to adapt to it first with full confidence and then deliver.

She is not only a successful entrepreneur but also equally participates in social causes. She strongly supports the social cause of State president of Haryana by “AAS EK PRAYAS” beat cancer by spreading awareness.
